Monthly our Claremont Place residents, staff, and family members recognize a team member for Starfish of the month.
November 2017 Starfish Recipient: Salma Sanchez
Salma Sanchez came to Claremont Place in March of 2017. She is part of our assisted living team of caregivers. Salma, her husband, daughter, and parents live locally and have been in the Pomona Valley since she was 10 years old. Her early childhood was spent near her grandparents in Iowa. She met her husband while he served in the US Navy. They had a long distance relationship as he was stationed in San Diego and spent time in Japan. Upon his discharge, they were married and were soon expecting a baby.
Salma had been off work during her pregnancy and for months after the arrival of her baby girl when she began considering a return to the workplace. Her prior employment had included working as a CNA in a skilled facility. She wanted to find a place where she could use her CNA skills, yet at the same time be able to work with residents in a more permanent homelike environment. Relationships are very important to Salma. The difference between a medical facility and a non-medical assisted living retirement community seemed to be the right choice for Salma. During her interview it became apparent that we had found a great candidate for the caregiver position we had open. We are so happy to have Salma on the Claremont Place team.
